Crop Management: Grown in spring gardens. Planted in March. Harvested at frost. Isolated planting. Must be irrigated. Put adobe into soil as fertilizing dirt. Planted about 1 foot apart. Seeds selected in fall for early ripening and greater productivity. Cultivation and ownership by women only.
Harvesting and Storage: As each pepper becomes red during the season it is picked. When frost comes, the remainder are taken in. Strung and dried. Hung in houses for storage. May be traded, particularly to Oraibi.
Properties and Use: Flavoring for food
Hopi Classification: Generic name is Chili. Bahan chili Whiteman’s chili. Recent. Wïko chili (As in look). Recognize (Edmund) that the Spanish name indicates a Spanish introduction.
Remarks: Hotness varies within the type
