During the 1935 Hopi Crop Survey, Whiting, Jones, and Nequatewa interviewed fifteen First Mesa households from four villages: Wàlpi, Sitsom’ovi, Hano, and Polacca. They collected fourteen plant samples, including several types of corn and beans, as well as gourds, melons, and coriander. In their field notes, Jones and Whiting noted that every household they interviewed also had fruit trees. Peaches, apples, apricots trees were the most common. A few families grew pears and grapes.
